April 2019 Newsletter
From the Pastor:
Dear Friends in Christ,
As we have journeyed to the heart of the Word of God during our midweek Lenten services, we have meditated on the ways that the scriptures speak to us and remind us of our deepest identity in Christ. We have shared soup and simple bread, lit candles, and sung prayerfully while meditating on how God’s Word creates us, calls us, commands us, and sustains us. This month, we remain on this path of weekly prayer where we gain an ever-growing awareness of the power of God’s presence among us as Christ calls us home to the heart of God. In Romans 12, St. Paul says, “I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.” We at Amazing Grace, responding to St. Paul’s appeal, commit ourselves to Christ as a praying people, and as a community with deep roots in the evangelical Lutheran tradition, nourished for spiritual worship, for grace-filled sacrificial living, and for renewal by the work of the Holy Spirit. By keeping our eyes on the prize of the upward call of God daily, we continue to grow in grace, hope, and love. I invite you to join us in fellowship, worship and service this month. There is always a place for you and those new to our community at Amazing Grace. Come share the spirit with us! We can’t wait to see you!

Lilies and Hydrangeas
The Worship Ministry Committee would like to enhance the beauty of our Easter Worship by decorating with Hydrangeas and Lilies on Easter Sunday. Plants from the greenhouse are $10 for a lily and $18 for a hydrangea, wrapped and bowed. As always they may be designated in honor or memory of someone. Orders must be turned in by April 7. An insert will be in the Sunday bulletin for you to place your order.
Palm Sunday Luncheon
The Fellowship committee has a luncheon set for Palm Sunday after worship. It will be a covered dish family style meal. There is a sign-up sheet posted on the kitchen door with suggested food items. Please know that we always have enough food to share with guests. So invite family and friends, bring some food to share and plan to stay a while and visit.
Notes from the Outreach Team:
Thank you to all who brought donations for our Hospice collection. The snacks, coffee, paper goods and other requested items will be available to patients and their families while at Caldwell Hospice. Most of the items have already been delivered.
The outreach committee will be collecting items for the shower ministry during April. Items may be dropped off in the red tub located under the Opportunities Board near the kitchen. We are especially low on razors, deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
This season we will work toward creating bags with items that people living outside might need. Ideas may include rain ponchos, individual wet wipe packets, feminine hygiene items, band aids and reusable water bottles or bottled water. We are still accepting personal sizes of all shower items like shampoo, soap and lotion.
At the end of April we will have a bag packing party. Anyone who would like to help pack these bags will be welcome. A reminder slip will be available for those who can help with supplying shower ministry items.
Our Amazing quick response to the SCCM food shortage was wonderful. Thank you to everyone who brought food donations and dollar donations to supply needed items. Sadly, this is an on-going issue from mid-January through mid-May. Donations fall off sharply after Christmas and the next big request from the community at large to help comes in May with the Postal Carrier collection. Any food donations that we can give are welcome and needed. We will continue to deliver food items, as they are collected in the Outreach Donations box thru April.
Please remember that we continue to collect Box Tops for Education, school supplies and donations for Living Waters Ministries. A canister is in the general kitchen area for Box tops. The Big Red Box for school supplies is hard to miss over near the closets. Living Waters donations can be placed in the blue box marked outreach donations. A trip to Living Waters will be planned after Lent and Easter.
Our neighbors at Grace Chapel Methodist will be having a community movie night on April 26th beginning at 6:00pm. Refreshments will be available and we are invited. When the movie is announced we’ll let you know.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you to Randall Berry for preaching and leading the congregation in worship on the Sunday in March when Pastor Frank had the flu.
Thank you to the ladies that have prepared the soup for our Wednesday Night Lenten Meals.
Thank you to Reggie Haas for spraying for weeds in and around the playground.
Thank you to those who did some Spring cleaning in our worship center to make it more appealing.
