November 2018 Newsletter
All Saints Day
All Saints Day will be observed on November 4. We will remember Lois Burch, Ralph Hartley, Jr., and Vera Hedrick who have passed away since last year's All Saints Sunday. Please keep each of these families in your prayers
Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving Dinner
The Fellowship Ministry Team will host our congregational Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Dinner following Worship on November 18. We’re looking for a great turnout for worship and a delicious covered dish meal. Please invite your family and bring food to share. The Fellowship Team will provide fried chicken and ham so you have a heads up on the menu. A signup sheet will be posted to cover some of the most enjoyed foods, and any other fill in items you choose to bring will be enjoyed. We hope you plan to attend!
Community Thanksgiving Service
The Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at First Methodist Church in Granite Falls on November 18 at 6pm. We are invited. Hopefully we will have a good turnout from Amazing Grace.
The Annual Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, December 2 following worship. The purpose of the meeting will be to approve the 2019 Budget and vote on a change to the Constitution. A recommended budget will be handed out two weeks prior to the meeting so everyone will have an opportunity to look at it before the meeting.
At a special called meeting on October 22, the Church Council voted to make an amendment to Amazing Grace's Constitution under Chapter 12 - Congregational Council. The change would call for eight members to serve on the church council instead of twelve members. This item will be presented to the Congregation to vote on at the Congregational meeting on December 2.
Singing at the Nursing Homes
Singing at the Nursing Homes has been suspended until further notice. Al and Beverly are coping from a recent fire at their home and in transition. Al is also experiencing some issues with his heart. Keep him and Beverly in your prayers.
The Worship Committee will be using Poinsettias again this year to decorate the worship center for Christmas. The cost of a plant from the greenhouse, wrapped and bowed, is $11.00. The plants may be given in honor or in memory of individuals. An insert will be in the Sunday bulletin soon for you to place your order.
Golden Agers will meet November 8th at 11:30am at Bethany Lutheran Church.
Women of the ELCA
Women of the ELCA will meet November 11th following worship.
Church Council will meet November 12th at 7pm in the Annex.
Christmas Angels and Brockford Inn Seniors
It’s time for our SCCM Christmas Angels and Brockford Inn Seniors Christmas gifts! Hard to believe that Christmas is so close. In keeping with recent years, we’ve been asked to assist families from our neighborhood to supply some gifts for children. You’ll soon see the tree with angels listing some basic items of clothing and a few toys. SCCM asks that these gifts not be wrapped, but if you’d like to donate gift wrap it will be made available to the parents. The Brockford Inn Seniors list will be for sweatshirts of different sizes and usually are all the same color. These can be wrapped. On the outside it is simply asked that the size and male or female be noted. This is one of the resident homes that our weekday singers visit most every month located in Granite Falls. Thank you for your support in these ministries to our community. If you have questions, please see Bobby or Judy Lail. They have stepped in to carry on these Christmas projects this year.
Outreach Committee Seeking Input
The Outreach Committee is always open to new project ideas and assistance with ongoing activities. If you have ideas for ways our congregation can reach out to the community, include neighbors in some activities, or invite people in for happenings, please share. We don’t know when our actions might touch someone in need of God’s presence.
A Note from the Family of Vera Hedrick
The family of Vera Hedrick would like to thank the members of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church for the kindness shown to our mother Vera. Many times members gave her a helping hand. Sometimes it was a ride to church or a strong arm to help her stand in church. She especially enjoyed Sunday lunches with church friends. She loved her Sunday school class so much and really everything about Amazing Grace Church.

Christian Love and Sympathy
Our Christian love and sympathy is extended to Ruby and Cliff Hefner at the recent death of Ruby's stepmother Alice Summers in South Carolina. May the comforting presence of our Lord Jesus be with you and yours.
World Community Day Worship Service
World Community Day Worship Service will be held on November 2 at 7pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Chapel in Hickory. The theme for this year's celebration is "Reaching for Wholeness in Harmony with God's People". This theme reflects the idea that wholeness requires feeling safe, cared for, valued, and connected within our local community and the larger world. Refreshments will be served after worship. World Community Day is sponsored by Church Women United. For more information, see Deborah Stamper who be participating in the service.
We Give Thanks
We give thanks to you, O Lord,
For what you've blessed us with
The abundance of the blessings
From heaven that you give.
For we have all received from you -
The abundance from your hand.
In many varied and different ways,
You've blessed us in this land.
We only need to look around
At what you, Lord, have given,
To see the many blessings we have
And see your full provision.
So, Lord, to you we give our thanks
With full and grateful hearts,
The blessing of family, friends and love,
And just for who you are.
